‎Liverpool Confirm £34m Victor Munoz Signing After Beating Newcastle in Transfer Race

‎Liverpool Move Quickly to Secure Munoz
‎The Merseyside club confirmed the arrival of Munoz after triggering the clause in his Osasuna deal, ensuring rival clubs were unable to intervene. Liverpool's decisive approach allowed them to complete the transfer swiftly and gain the upper hand over Newcastle, who had also been pursuing the player.
‎Munoz, currently representing Spain at the World Cup, underwent a medical at the national team's base in Tennessee, USA, before signing a long-term contract. Although the transfer remains subject to a successful work permit application and international clearance, Liverpool have already secured the player's commitment.
‎Newcastle Miss Out on Key Target
‎The transfer is a significant setback for Newcastle United, who had identified Munoz as one of their priority targets. The club had been engaged in negotiations as they sought attacking reinforcements following Anthony Gordon's move to Barcelona earlier in the transfer window.
‎Liverpool's willingness to pay the full release clause immediately left Newcastle unable to negotiate alternative terms. By matching Osasuna's valuation outright, the Reds accelerated the process and moved directly into discussions with the player.
‎As a result, Newcastle are now expected to focus on other transfer options as they continue plans to strengthen their squad during the summer window.
‎First Arrival Under Andoni Iraola
‎Munoz becomes the first signing completed since Andoni Iraola took charge as head coach. The 22-year-old is expected to join his new teammates later this summer once his World Cup commitments conclude.
‎Iraola reportedly views the Spanish forward as an ideal fit for the energetic and demanding style he aims to establish at Anfield, with Munoz's versatility and work ethic considered key attributes.
‎Spain International Ready for Premier League Step
‎The winger has earned two caps for Spain and scored on his debut against Serbia in March. His performances for Osasuna during a breakthrough campaign helped convince Liverpool that he was prepared for the challenge of Premier League football.
‎Across 34 appearances, Munoz contributed seven goals and five assists, while his previous development in the academies of both Barcelona and Real Madrid further strengthened his reputation as a technically gifted player.
‎Focus Remains on the World Cup
‎Munoz is technically the second addition finalised for Liverpool's senior squad ahead of the new season, following an earlier agreement for defender Jeremy Jacquet.
‎For now, the Spaniard remains focused on international duty and is preparing for Spain's second World Cup group-stage match against Saudi Arabia in Atlanta on Sunday. Spain enter the fixture after being held to a surprise goalless draw by Cape Verde in their opening game.
